Related: My 2nd cousin who is also my flatmate took post graduate classes in Retail Management via Indian Retail School when he was living in New Delhi. I wanted thinking of take classes there in Visual Merchandising & Store Design, but my parents nixed that- no travel to India during the pandemic. Instead I am taking online classes and living with my cousin. The Covid 19 pandemic really has messed up life here in Australia and everywhere. But I am grateful I am not living in the US where my grandparents are. Australia has done a great job after our summer surge in infections and hospitalizations. When you look at Australia pandemic charts it's really flat. In contrast the US charts are going straight up. It's terrifying.
To take my mind off of what's happening with the pandemic, I, like many other Aussies enjoy playing at online pokies Australia friendly casinos. My cousin turned me onto a cool visually fun site called Online Casino Party where they have a page devoted to casinos that accept Australia punters. That's where I discovered Fair Go Casino and Uptown Pokies Casino. I often just play their demo pokies to get a feel for the games and not spend any real money. You start off with a fun balance of money which allows you to bet with abandon. Of course even when you win big cash amounts you can't actually cash it in, but it is great fun to be able to bet the max without it actually costing you anything. Every time I play a pokies game, I think of my best friend who is taking courses to become a computer game designer. He has a bachelor's degree in computer science engineering and is now taking courses in actual game designing. I looked at the online schools for video game design, but the coding is too much for me. And I really do love my Merchandising & Store Design courses. Once a vaccine is available, I might apply to Swinburne in Melbourne and go full time in visual merchandising. I really like their work integrated learning approach. And my parents aren't opposed to my living in Melburne.

More Background On IndianRetailSchool.com
IndianRetailSchool.com served for several years as the official website of the Indian Retail School (IRS), an early pioneer in India’s specialized retail-education sector. The website—active primarily between 2005 and the early 2010s—offered a detailed look at IRS’s programs, mission, infrastructure, and industry partnerships. Today, the domain survives mainly through archived snapshots, but its legacy remains notable in discussions of India’s retail-industry training and early retail-management education.
The Indian Retail School positioned itself as India’s first academic institute of retail and one of the earliest dedicated platforms for nurturing skilled manpower in a fast-expanding sector. At a time when India’s organized retail industry was experiencing unprecedented growth, IRS filled a major gap in retail education by offering structured programs, modern facilities, and international academic collaborations. Its official website functioned as a hub of information for prospective students, industry leaders, faculty, and partners.
This extensive article examines the content preserved from IndianRetailSchool.com, the historical context behind its rise, and the institute’s reputation, awards, goals, cultural impact, and long-term relevance.
Origins and Founding Vision
Indian Retail School was launched under Pearl Retail Solutions Pvt. Ltd., supported by the well-known House of Pearl group—an integrated fashion-to-retail conglomerate active in global markets. The school was conceived during a period when India’s retail landscape was rapidly transforming with the arrival of major domestic and international brands, expansion of malls, and a dramatic shift toward organized retail.
Founded in 2005, IRS was among the earliest specialized institutes to recognize that the retail industry needed trained professionals, not just informal on-the-job learners. Its mission was centered on:
-
Filling the supply gap in skilled retail manpower
-
Providing India’s first structured curriculum for retail careers
-
Creating a pipeline of job-ready talent for the industry
-
Supporting entrepreneurs, independent retailers, and family-run retail stores
-
Introducing global retail practices to Indian students
Within a few years, IRS had established itself as an important training institution recognized by retail employers, educational researchers, and the business-education press.
Location and Campus Infrastructure
The Indian Retail School operated its main campus in Delhi, specifically within the Naraina Industrial Area. As highlighted in the archived website, the institute occupied more than 11,000 square feet of area and was located adjacent to the Pearl Academy of Fashion campus, giving IRS substantial academic and logistical advantages.
Key features of the reported infrastructure included:
-
State-of-the-art seminar rooms with modern audiovisual devices
-
A fully equipped computer lab
-
A dedicated Visual Merchandising Lab for hands-on creative training
-
A Resource Centre providing learning materials
-
Faculty cabins and administrative offices, following corporate design
-
A cafeteria and student areas
